27 Years of Experience
Actively Managed
& Monitored Daily
Market Beating Returns
Stuart Quan, Chief Investment Officer and founder of Powder Ridge Capital, has been managing money in the U.S. equity markets for 27 years. He has watched the equity markets trade virtually every day since 1997 and therefore is well versed in both the fundamentals of individual stocks and the trading patterns of the market. He has managed through many market cycles and several bear markets including 9/11, the global financial crisis of 2008, Covid-19, and the 2022 bear market. Clients benefit from this experience and judgment as he is completely comfortable operating in both bull and bear markets and keenly adept at adjusting client portfolios accordingly.
Powder Ridge Capital constructs a personalized portfolio of stocks for each client. The firm’s investment philosophy is guided in the principle that no one wants to lose money, but clients want the upside that the stock market provides above savings accounts and bonds. Clients understand that PRC has the ability to exceed the stock market’s 6% to 8% long-term annualized equity return AND also protect capital in down markets. Unlike others who provide you an initial investment portfolio, set it and forget it, client portfolios are monitored daily. Adjustments are made real-time to ensure that your portfolio is optimally positioned for the coming months, quarters and years.
A taxable account in 2020 grew 179% net of fees, almost a tripling in value. In other words, a $100,000 account on January 1, 2020 would be $279,000 on December 31, 2020. An IRA account was up 122% net of fees in 2020. In other words, a $100,000 account on January 1, 2020 would be $222,000 on December 31, 2020, more than a doubling in value. In 2021, a taxable account was up 9% net. In 2022 a taxable account was down 10% net and in 2023 up approximately +24% vs. the S&P 500 down 19% and +24% respectively. Year-to-date through February 9, 2024, the portfolio is up over 10%.
Flexibility in Changing Markets
Capital Preservation
Inclusive
Powder Ridge Capital has the flexibility to limit risk by selling a portion or all of a client’s portfolio when events such as Covid-19 are brewing. Portfolios were adjusted to all cash by the end of February 2020, in anticipation of the severe market correction that occurred due to the spreading of Covid-19. PRC reinvested client portfolios when stocks reached very attractive prices in March 2020. Most mutual funds’ charters don’t allow them to raise high levels of cash and most traditional wealth managers never sell either as they fear missing out if the stock market keeps going up.
For most clients, Powder Ridge Capital manages their life savings. The firm is prudent and extremely thoughtful in all its investment decisions. PRC appreciates that your dollars have been hard earned and knows the importance of protecting and preserving your capital.
Powder Ridge Capital focuses on clients with investable assets ranging from $1,000,000 to $500,000,000. The minimum initial deposit is $500,000.
